Quick Hits: Master’s Analogy | Pandemic Retirees | Updated Seminar

It officially feels like Spring when the Master’s is on TV!

Even if you aren’t a golf fan, there is something magical about a sporting event that has so much rich tradition.

Speaking of golf – I love this analogy that was shared with me years ago that you can use to help explain how you provide value to your clients when every advisors looks the same and has the “Same” products.

“ Success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character.”

-Arnold Palmer.

Here are your Quick Hits:

Pandemic Forced Millions to Retire Early

  • “A year after the COVID-19 pandemic was declared a national emergency, many of the disproportionate number of older Americans pushed out of the workforce by the combined health crisis and economic downturn are retiring earlier than planned, risking long-term financial insecurity because of lower-than-anticipated savings and payouts from pensions, Social Security and other sources.”
  • “More than a quarter of all workers say COVID has prompted them to move up their retirement date”

Are we in a Housing Bubble? – USA Today

  • “Home prices are rising coast to coast and are outstripping wages and rents. Some say it’s another housing bubble. But it’s nothing like the mid 2000s.”
  • “As in the housing boom of the mid-2000s, home prices are rising faster than personal incomes.”

How much should you worry about Inflation in Retirement?

  • “And while the medical-care inflation rate has recently been more in line with the general inflation rate, its historical average is more than 5%, which has had a disproportionate effect on older adults.”

Stat that made me say “Huh…”

  • The average annual domestic stock market return is roughly 10 percent but the stock market has only performed within two percent of that number in six of the last 95 years. The highest annual return was 54 percent and lowest -43 percent.
  • The lesson? To get the average return – which is excellent – stay diversified and hang on for the ride.
  • Or look into some diversifying asset classes like…FIAs!
